Weeride - ages 3-5
Ponies put big smiles on little people!

Weeride is a program for very young children piloted in the fall of 2002.  All of the initial participants gave glowing reviews of the program, so it was permanently added to the line of introductory riding programs at Ashwood Farm.  While not a structured riding lesson where your child learns the posting trot and how to jump fences, Weeride allows youngsters to actively participate in horse feeding, grooming, learning safety zones on the ground and riding.  Activities at each lesson include crafts geared toward learning the colors and markings of horses, time to play with the dogs and kitties, and a yummy snack(after hand washing).  Sometimes we get to take a ride in the big horse trailer around the driveway or even help give one of the horses a bath.  The goal of Weeride is to broaden the horse opportunity to a younger age of horse lover.

A Pony by Aileen Fisher
Wish I had a pony
who would nuzzle, nuzzle, nuzzle
with his silky satin muzzle

Wish I had a pony
I could straddle, straddle, straddle
so I wouldn't need a saddle

Wish I had a white one,
a just the proper height one

Wish I had a red one,
a star upon his head one

Wish I had a brown one,
a trotting up and down one

Wish I had a pony
with a name like Tuck or Tony
who was plump instead of bony
(though a bony one would do)...

Wish it didn't take so long for wishes to come true.

Equestrian sports differ from once a week activities.  To become a horseman, you must emerse yourself in horses and love the horse with all of your heart.
